This free walking tour takes you through Tromsø's compact city center, blending history, local legends, and practical tips — from the Arctic Cathedral's stunning views to the bustling harbour, from royal trivia to the science behind the midnight sun and polar night. It's the perfect first activity to get your bearings and fall in love with the city before exploring further on your own.

We're a small, local tour company passionate about sharing the best of Tromsø. As you walk, we'll bring the city's history to life, share fascinating facts, and give you insider tips to make the most of your stay in the City of the Northern Lights.

We've noticed that many visitors leave Tromsø without discovering its best attractions, its hidden gems, its handiest shortcuts, or the restaurant that serves the finest traditional Norwegian food. That's where we come in — guiding you so you head home delighted with your trip and every experience it held.

To make sure of that, we've thought of everything: we'll lend you crampons (metal spikes for icy conditions) so you can walk safely throughout the tour, and at the end of the route, you'll unlock exclusive access to our Secret Arctic Fox Digital Guide — your personal treasure map to Tromsø's best-kept spots.

The tour lasts around two hours and is completely free to join. Tipping is entirely up to you — our guides will do their best to earn every bit of it.

Meeting point (Tromsø Domkirke)

  1. Tromsø church (Kirkegata 7)

    Our free tour meeting point. We will introduce ourselves and the activity itself. We will explain the aim of the tour and begin with some interesting stories about the place and some useful tips about the area in question.

  2. Storgata

    Main street in Tromsø. Interesting technological features, bars, ATM, souvenir shops and other places of interest that we will point for the customers. The contrast between the city’s modern and historic architecture.

  3. Stortorget

    Tromsø main square. We’ll provide more information about the city’s economic activity, one of Tromso’s most iconic monuments and the tragic story behind it. We’ll introduce you to an iconic bar where you can order local snacks and tell you a little about its history, amongst other things.

  4. Music Pavilion and Haakon monument

    Interesting facts about the Norwegian royal family. More tips about the city, local beers and the Tromsø brewery and beer brand.

  5. Tromsø Harbour

    Tromsø bridge to the mainland, seafaring life, commercial activity and a rather unusual tradition. Wonderful views of the local harbour. Nice spot for taking great photos!

  6. Polar Museum and Local hero

    Energy for the future, the local hero and a museum well worth a visit.

  7. Gateway to the arctic

    Why Tromsø is called like that. A local artist, a blue mosaic, and a beautiful landscape to take pictures.

  8. Local food tips, Polar night and Midnight Sun

    Our last stop in city center. We will show them the midnight sun mosaic. We will discuss the celestial phenomena of the polar night and the midnight sun. Ending the journey with a local restaurant recommendation.
